PTA

NEWBARNS PTA (Parent/Teacher/Friends Association)

Anyone associated with the school can be a member of this group, in whatever capacity they choose – help at events such as the Christmas Market, marshalling at the Coniston to Barrow Walk, baking cakes, helping in school and participating in any other fundraising activities is greatly appreciated.  Many thousands of pounds have been raised over the years and all money goes towards enriching curriculum events such as author and theatre company visits, extra playground equipment and “treats” the children would not normally have.

Meet the PTA

Jen Fox – Chair

I am a mum of two boys in Newbarns school currently in Years 3 and 6. I believe the PTA is a fantastic opportunity for all parents and guardians to have a more active role in their children's school. I think it's an ideal time for parents to socialise, network and raise funds for Newbarns and the PTA. Since 2020 when COVID has had such an impact on everyone, I feel that a positive  social life for children and parental support is needed more than ever.  I would love it if we could have lots of help from friends and other parents in the school to support the PTA, make lots of memories and provide fun opportunities for our children.

Sheena Burns – Treasurer

I work as a tender support officer for an expanding engineering technology company and have a son at Newbarns Primary and Nursery School, currently in year 2.

Whilst I have never previously been involved in a PTA I am interested in the school, what it provides and how it can continue to develop to further relations with families and the community. I have joined the PTA as I want to enhance the experience for all children during their time at Newbarns.

Katie French – Publicity Officer

I run a small business making jewellery and crafts as well as raising our three boys. I have recently been appointed as a midday supervisor.

As a family we have been a part of Newbarns for many years and have enjoyed a friendly relationship and have taken a keen interest in what was going on in the school. My eldest in now in senior school but my younger children still attend Newbarns Primary and Nursery School (Year 2 and 6).

My hope for the PTA is to bring families and the school closer together and to make it a real community, where parents have a real voice and a platform to express their ideas and views. With enough participation from parents, grandparents and carers, we can make it something really great.

Ben Charnley – Staff Representative

I have worked at Newbarns Primary School for 11 years and currently teach Year 6. Having taught many of your children and built-up good relationships with a wide-range of parents, I can see the positive impact that a thriving PTA could have on the school and its community. Lots of parents and families have contacted me to say they would like to help at events and I am extremely keen to take all the help that is offered…and more!

Jeanette Staunton – PTA Secretary

I have recently started in the office at Newbarns as School Business Administrator.  I have two children, my son, Charlie, is in year 5 at Newbarns and my daughter, Emily, left last year and is now at Furness Academy.

I hope that the PTA can bring parents together and create a socially inclusive community for the children.  It can also be a platform for parents to have a more open dialogue with the school being able to bring ideas and suggestions to make our school even better for everyone involved.
